Mon. March 13
We did the Using Consistent Verb Tense worksheet. We went around the room and wrote down attributes of the 6 Traits of Writing We read the article The Amazing Powers of Jen Bricker and wrote down one thing for each trait of writing that we noticed in the article. We read the poem "Can't" and wrote down the theme. Tues. March 14 We practiced identifying verbs as helping, action, or linking. We talked about the process of brain storming. 1- State the Question (look at the prompt and figure out what question you will be answering) 2- Generate Ideas (For an argumentative look at both sides) 3-Suspend Criticism (Turn off the part of your brain that says... no that's a silly idea, write it all down) As a class we did that for the prompt of "Write an Argumentative Essay on whether the effects of TV on young people are positive or negative" Then, the students did one on their own with this prompt: "Write an argumentative essay on the effects of technology on friendships. Is it helping or killing them?" We also made a Argumentative essay booklet with definitions of the following: Claim Counterclaim Rebuttal Evidence Elaboration Argument Organization We worked on book reports that are due on Mon. March. 20 Wed. March 15
