We did Vocab 4D, then did the replacing overused words assignment. We read the Welcome to the Future text set, and talked about how to integrate sources, and started writing the constructed response. Tues. Mar. 28 We did Vocab 4E, Worked on the Future Constructed Response. After that, we looked at different examples of students evidence and elaboration. We also worked on the descriptive words assignment.

We wrote down the vocab words for Lesson 4 We looked at a SAGE Argumentative Rubric, and highlighted certain elements. We did the "To Rescue or Not" assignment, specifically focusing on claims. Continued to work on our Sports Argumentative Essays, and did the Sports Argumentative Essay Elements assignment. (See Below) Tues. Mar. 21 We talked about varying sentence beginnings, and did an assignment on that. Then, students chose one paragraph from the Sports Argumentative Essay and change up the beginnings. We started looking at the Superhero essay. Wed. Mar. 22 We did Vocab 4A, talked about how to correctly integrate sources into an essay, and worked on the Superhero essay. Thurs. Mar. 23 We did Vocab 4B, and worked on Superhero essays. Fri. Mar. 24 We did Vocab 4C, Lazy Editor assignment (March 2017). We finished our Superhero Essays, and worked on missing assignments. Mon. We did the Using Consistent Verb Tense worksheet. We went around the room and wrote down attributes of the 6 Traits of Writing We read the article The Amazing Powers of Jen Bricker and wrote down one thing for each trait of writing that we noticed in the article. We read the poem "Can't" and wrote down the theme. Tues. March 14 We practiced identifying verbs as helping, action, or linking. We talked about the process of brain storming. 1- State the Question (look at the prompt and figure out what question you will be answering) 2- Generate Ideas (For an argumentative look at both sides) 3-Suspend Criticism (Turn off the part of your brain that says... no that's a silly idea, write it all down) As a class we did that for the prompt of "Write an Argumentative Essay on whether the effects of TV on young people are positive or negative" Then, the students did one on their own with this prompt: "Write an argumentative essay on the effects of technology on friendships. Is it helping or killing them?" We also made a Argumentative essay booklet with definitions of the following: Claim Counterclaim Rebuttal Evidence Elaboration Argument Organization We worked on book reports that are due on Mon.
